Cairo after granite gods
The Museum of Islamic Art at Bab al-Khalq is the city’s argument that genius did not end with stone gods. Wood, metal, manuscript, mosque furniture. Groups skip it because the bus is pointed at Giza. Their loss is your weather: calmer rooms, joinery you can actually finish. The house was wounded in 2014 and repaired. You walk a restoration as well as a collection. That belongs on the label.
Downtown around it is not a hotel district. Plan the taxi. Plan the hour. Do not wander into traffic theory without a map. Screening is usual. Reading is the point: the join, the inlay, the manuscript line, not a dynasty name shouted for a camera.
A morning that holds
Arrive with leftover attention — which means not after a full Tahrir raid and a plateau. Islamic Art wants the same slow shutter as Coptic wood. Ninety minutes can finish a wing.
